Further help with debts

If you are having real problems with debt we’d recommend these helpful people if you need some more advice in relation to debt management.

CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service)
CCCS is a registered charity offering free, confidential advice and support to anyone who is worried about debt. Their free counselling and debt advice can help you get back in control of your money and on with your life.

For online debt counselling which is tailored to your individual circumstances, try the CCCS Debt Remedy Tool in association with Lloyds TSB. All advice and recommendations are backed by 15 years of experience and knowledge gained by CCCS counsellors. You don’t have to give your name and the CCCS service is totally free.

Financial Services Authority
This is a government organisation set up to offer impartial help and advice to consumers on all money matters. Go to the ‘money made clear’ pages at the FSA or try their Consumer Helpline on 0845 606 1234, between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, or minicom/textphone on 0845 730 0104. Citizens Advice Bureau
They provide free, confidential, impartial information and advice on a wide range of debt and benefits issues face to face. For your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau, check your local phone book or Yellow Pages. Or go to Citizens Advice for England and Wales or CAS for Scotland.

The National Debtline
This is a national telephone helpline for people struggling with debt. National Debtline can also send you a free debt advice pack, with guidance on completing a personal budget to legal questions connected with debt. Call National Debtline on 0808 808 4000, 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 1pm Saturday or go to the national debtline website.

Other Useful Services

Call adviceuk
This is a network that supports free advice providers and can give details of your nearest debt advice centre. Call adviceuk on 020 7407 4070, 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Your local council
Many local authorities offer debt advice services. To call and check with yours, look under Local Government in the phone book.

Job Centre
For enquiries about benefits, look under Job Centre in the phone book or visit job centre plus for your nearest office.
