Can Standing Orders & Direct Debit payments continue from a sole account?
No, the account will be blocked from the date of notification of the death. Any Standing Orders & Direct Debits will be returned unpaid.
What can be paid out of an account prior to Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration being obtained?
The following items can be paid for from the account prior to Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration being obtained: Funeral Bill, Probate fees, Inheritance Tax, provided the request comes from either the next of kin, the executors or the solicitors dealing with the estate.
If there is a dispute within the family over the estate, the Grant of Probate will need to be verified by the branch irrespective of the value.
In some cases we can also settle the invoice for the memorial/headstone, this requires the specific authority of the next of kin or executors.
What credits can be accepted into the account?
Dividends & interest payments will continue to be credited to the account. Any other credits will be returned to the originator.
What happens if family/Executors live abroad?
All cases must be sent to the Estate Settlement Unit (ESU). The ESU will contact the family/executors to ask that they complete and return the Deceased Customer Claim Form 1721 along with identification, which has been certified by a Solicitor/Notary Public. An International Money Mover form is also sent to the family/executors, for completion & return.
What happens with Lloyds TSB overdrafts and loans?
If the loan or overdraft is insured the debt ‘could’ be repaid by the insurance. If uninsured the debt is a liability on the estate and we will write to the next of kin/ executor to discuss repayment.
Is Grant of Probate required before the will can be released, if the will is the only item held in Safe Custody by Lloyds TSB?
No, the will can be released to the executors named in the will. A copy of the will must be taken before it is released as it will be needed by Lloyds TSB.
When does the bank require sight of a Grant of Probate?
The bank requires Grant of Probate when the total credit balances as at the date of death exceed £15,000 or the deceased customer held a Safe Custody facility with the bank, except when the will is the only item stored in Safe Custody, in which case it can be released to the executors.
When can I expect a response from Lloyds TSB?
Our aim is to communicate any information that we have either requested or been sent within five working days.
What happens to joint accounts?
