What is a cookie?

Cookies are files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to the device you use when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies do lots of different and useful jobs, such as remembering your preferences, and generally improving your online experience.

There are different types of cookies. They all work in the same way, but have minor differences:
 
Session cookies
Session cookies last only for the duration of your visit and are deleted when you close your browser. They facilitate tasks such as allowing a website to identify that a user of a particular device is navigating from page to page, supporting website security or basic functionality.

Many of the cookies we use are session cookies. For example, they help us to ensure the security of your Internet Banking session, and can also keep you signed in to Internet Banking while you move between pages or service your account.

Our session cookies used for security are designed to be very difficult to read, change, access or use except by us when you have an active Internet Banking session. They contain no personal information that can be used to identify an individual. Their names typically start with the letters IB e.g. IBSESSION, IBCOOKIE01, IBCOOKIE02.

Persistent cookies
Persistent cookies last after you have closed your browser, and allow a website to remember your actions and preferences. Sometimes persistent cookies are used by websites to provide targeted advertising based on the browsing history of the device.

Lloyds TSB uses persistent cookies in a few ways, for example, to remember your username for log on so you don’t have to (cookie named IBUserID). We also use persistent cookies to allow us to analyse customer visits to our site, for example, our cookie named WT_fpc. These cookies help us to understand how customers arrive at and use our site so we can improve the Internet Banking service.

First and third party cookies
Whether a cookie is a first or third party cookie depends on which website the cookie comes from. First party cookies are those set by or on behalf of the website visited. All other cookies are third party cookies. We use both first party and third party cookies. You can read more about them below.
 
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential to enable you to move around the website and use its features, and for ensuring the security of your online banking experience. Without these cookies, services such as applying for products and managing your accounts can’t be provided. These cookies don’t gather information about you for the purposes of marketing.

Performance cookies
These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for example, which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages. These cookies don't collect information that identifies a visitor, although they may collect the IP address of the device used to access the site. All information these cookies collect is anonymous and is only used to improve how a website works, the user experience and to optimise our advertising.

Targeting cookies
These cookies collect several pieces of information about your browsing habits. They are usually placed by advertising networks. They remember that you have visited a website, and this information is shared with other organisations such as media publishers.

These organisations do this in order to provide you with targeted adverts more relevant to you and your interests. This type of advertising is called online behavioural advertising. Companies providing this advertising are working with the UK’s Internet Advertising Bureau to deliver more information to consumers.

Publishers of advertising will, in the future, look to place an icon in the top right hand corner of an advert. When you click this icon, you’ll find more information about behavioural advertising at your online choices

In addition, Lloyds Banking Group seeks to only use advertising networks which are signed up to the Internet Advertising Sales Houses (IASH) code of conduct for the placement of adverts. _olocookie This cookie is used by General Insurance to store session information related to the Home Insurance sales process. The data relates to how the customer arrived at the site and no information is held specific to the customer. The session data is only held for one day and is necessary to track the performance of our sales process. This is a third party cookie.
_Utma The _utma cookie is part of Google analytics, and is primarily used to track visits to any site which uses Google analytics. _utma stores the number of visits made from your device, the time of the first visit, the previous visit, and the current visit. This cookie doesn’t contain any personal information other than the IP address of your device. This is a third party cookie.
_Utmb The _utmb cookie is part of Google analytics. __utmb and __utmc are used to check approximately how long you stay on any site which uses Google analytics: when a visit starts and when it approximately ends. This cookie doesn’t contain any personal information other than the IP address of your device. This is a third party cookie.
_Utmc The _utmc cookie is part of Google analytics. __utmb and __utmc are used to check approximately how long you stay on any site which uses Google analytics: when a visit starts, and when it approximately ends. This cookie doesn’t contain any personal information other than the IP address of your device. This is a third party cookie.
_Utmv The _utmv cookie is part of Google analytics. It contains no specific customer data other than the IP address of your device, but is used to record custom variables for segmentation. This is a third party cookie.
_Wt.control-305452-ta loans Webtrends Optimize cookie is used to record how many times your device has been used to view pages on our website, and tailor the website to those items we think may be of interest based on pages previously visited. The cookie doesn’t store personal information other than the IP address of your device. This is a third party persistent cookie which is stored for 90 days from creation/last visit.
16183-MID Part of the One Media Group (OMG) suite of cookies, this cookie records what website the click came from and its referring URL.

No personal information other than the user's IP Address is collected. The function of this cookie is to help with campaign optimisation by providing details of which of our partners are driving the largest volume of credit card applications.

This cookie also allows us to remunerate our partners for successful credit card applications generated by referrals. This cookie doesn’t allow either OMG or LBG to see any personal data of the customer's credit card application form. This is a third party cookie.
16183-MID.sol This cookie is used by OMG, a partner of LBG, to derive the same information as the 16183-MID cookie. It’s is only read by OMG if the standard cookie (16183-MID) is not present.
ACOOKIE ACOOKIE is a Webtrends optimise first party cookie. Lloyds Banking Group has a First party relationship with Webtrends, who act on our behalf. Data contained in the cookie includes:

• visitor identifier (not personal details)
• which of our websites was visited
• the time of the last visit to one of our websites
• the time of this visit

This allows us to understand how recently your device was used to access our website.
Amnet453131 This cookie is used by an advertising agency, the Mileage Company, a partner of Lloyds TSB. The cookie works in conjunction with a tag placed on the confirmation page of the credit card application form. This tracks which advertising is converting into applications and makes sure the Mileage Company is using the most efficient advertising channels and can to run campaigns on the Lloyds TSB Avios Duo Card without relying on the Lloyds Banking Group sending data to them. No personal data other than an IP Address is stored on this cookie. This is a third party cookie.
Amnet922660 Amnet922660 is used by an advertising agency, the Mileage Company, a partner of Lloyds TSB. The cookie works in conjunction with a cookie placed on the confirmation page of the credit card application form. This confirms the effectiveness of our online advertising. No personal data other than an IP Address is stored on this cookie. This is a third party cookie.
APSESSION This cookie is used to keep the connection between your browser and our servers as you move around our website. It uses a randomly generated identifier and doesn’t contain any personal information other than your IP address. This is a first party cookie.
ASPSSIONID This TOMAS (The Open Market Annuity Service) cookie extended with auto generated characters is used by the Annuity Service website for storing the customers session ID which is used to identify the customer. Session ID is then used to store the customers data during the session on the Annuity Service website so they do not have to rekey information when navigating between pages. This is a third party cookie.
ASP.net_sessionID This cookie is used for storing your session ID, which is used to identify you. Session ID is then used to store your data for 15 minutes so you don’t have to rekey information when navigating between pages.
Calling_URL This recognises which URL a customer uses to access the secure site, in order to identify the appropriate branding to display. This is a first party cookie.
dcConnector The dcConnector cookie is used to manage the connection between DoubleClick and WebTrend analytics. It allows us to see how effective our advertising is. This is a third party cookie.
DoubleClickID This is an anonymous, unique identifier used to track how successful our advertising is. The cookie allows the device’s IP address to be sent to a website, but it doesn’t store the IP address or any other personal data. This is a third party cookie.
halifaxcouk This cookie is used to make sure customers see fresh versions of the homepage each time they visit the page. To do this, it stores which version of the home page they last saw and makes sure they see the alternate rotation of the home page.
HBOSVISITOR This is used for website analytics and mapping the customer journey. It tracks customer journey information i.e. pages customers navigate to and web clicks within that specific journey. It’s used to improve site experience and effectiveness. It contains a unique customer identifier.
Hx This brand identifier makes sure the correct branding is shown to customers within the secure site, depending which site they sign in through.
Hxsession Hxsession is used to maintain the connection between a customer's browser and their session during the sales process. This is a first party cookie.
HxUse logincookie This cookie stores the username of a customer on the log on page. It only works once the customer has requested this via the tick box on screen. This is a first party cookie.
IBUserID IBUserID stores the user ID of a customer on the log on page. It only works once the customer has requested this via the tick box on screen. This is a first party cookie.
Id The Id cookie is used to track advert delivery and conversion activity, and to build behavioural profiles for Google Ad Exchange or Google Content Network.

It also collects the recent click history for your device in encrypted form. This allows external advertisers to provide adverts based on what they think you’re interested in.

The Id cookie collects the following:

• An anonymous, unique identifier used to track advert delivery and conversion activity, and to build behavioural profiles for use in Google Ad Exchange or Google Content Network
• Recent click history for your device is also collected in encrypted form. This allows external advertisers to target users of the device with adverts based on perceived interests.
The cookie doesn’t store the IP address, but they are passed through to Google along with the cookie by the browser. Google then renders the IP address unreadable by removing the last 3 characters.

IDX The IDX cookie is used as part of the sign in process for Share Dealing. This is a first party cookie.
JSESSIONID This is an essential security cookie for Internet Banking. This is a first party cookie.
ONTReqAuthenMethod This cookie is used to help ensure the security of the connection between your browser and your session during the sales process. This is a first party cookie.

#QuoteID# This TOMAS (The Open Market Annuity Service) cookie is used for maintaining navigation on the main screen and is only activated when dependent details are entered. This is a third party cookie.
RequestVerificationToken_# This TOMAS (The Open Market Annuity Service) cookie extended with auto generated characters is used for ensuring security is maintained across the Annuity Service website. This is a third party cookie.
SDMobilePreference The SDMobilePreference cookie records whether the last user to access the Share Dealing site from the device visited the online site or the mobile site. It instructs the service to open in the appropriate format for this visit. This is a first party cookie.
test/ 77tracking.com This is an analytics cookie which allows us to understand how our paid advertising from search is working. This is a third party cookie.
TomasAuth This TOMAS (The Open Market Annuity Service) cookie is used to maintain a seamless and secure logged in status throughout a session on the Annuity Service website. This is a third party cookie.
WT_FPC This cookie identifies the visitor and the session to track use of our websites so we can improve them. Data contained in the cookie includes a visitor ID which is anonymous, and the time of the start and end of the visit. This is a first party cookie.

Additional information

From time to time, we may embed external content from third party websites (e.g. Facebook, YouTube) within our website. We also partner with third parties who provide services for us which you can navigate to from our website. These third parties may use cookies.
