What you get with a Lloyds TSB Student Account

Up to £1,500 interest and fee-free tiered Planned Overdraft

How it works

  • In the first year of your studies you can apply for an interest and fee-free tiered Planned Overdraft of up to £1,500, starting with £500 for the first six months
  • You can then apply to increase it to £1,000 in months seven to nine and from month 10 up to £1,500
  • We also offer an interest and fee-free untiered Planned Overdraft of up to £1,500 in years two and three and up to £2,000 in years four, five and six

To get an overdraft, you need to be 18 or over and you need to apply and be approved.

  • Overdraft buffer
You automatically get a £10 overdraft buffer whether you have a Planned or Unplanned Overdraft, so there will be no overdraft fees or interest to pay if you go overdrawn by £10 or less (above any interest and fee-free amount available on your account).
  • A grace period if you go over your limit
You have until 3:30pm (UK time) to pay in enough money to avoid any overdraft fees for that day. The money needs to be immediately available to use, so you could transfer money from another personal account you have with us via Mobile Banking, Internet Banking or PhoneBank® or pay in cash over the counter in branch.
  • Lloyds TSB Visa debit card
You can use your Lloyds TSB Visa debit card online and in over 500,000 places in the UK and 27 million places worldwide. It also gives you the freedom to take out money at 62,000 cash machines in the UK, you can use it to get up to £50 cashback where available and make payments over the phone.

          Glossary

          Account balance

The amount of money you have in your account at a particular time. Sometimes a balance will include payments that have been made to your account, but are not yet available because they haven’t cleared. This means that the money has not been received by the bank and is not available to spend. The money which has cleared and that you can spend is sometimes called your available funds or available balance.

          Added Value Account

An Added Value account is a current account that offers a package of additional benefits at a discounted price for a monthly fee. These typically include annual travel insurance, AA Breakdown Cover, mobile phone insurance, card protection, overdraft benefits and savings on holidays.

          AER

AER means Annual Equivalent Rate. This illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded each year. The AER allows you to compare different offers easily.

          EAR

EAR is the Equivalent Annual Rate. This is the actual annual rate of an overdraft. It doesn't take into account other fees and charges.
