How do I apply?

All you need to open a Student Account is your UCAS confirmation letter or a letter from your university or college confirming your place. If you are a new customer we’ll also need to see proof of identity and address (opens in a new window).

Up to £1,500 tiered interest-free Planned Overdraft
Once your account is opened, you can apply for an interest-free Planned Overdraft of up to £1,500 (subject to status). Starting with £500 for the first six months. Then apply to increase it to £1,000 in months seven to nine and you can apply for £1,500 after that – helping you to manage your spending over your first year. We also offer an untiered interest-free Planned Overdraft of up to £1,500 in years two and three and up to £2,000 in years four, five and six.

Three Year NUS Extra Card
We’re the only bank to offer you a free NUS Extra Card for three years . With your NUS Extra Card, you’ll be able to get great wallet saving discounts with over 80 of your favourite brands, including Amazon, Superdrug, Odeon and JJB Sports. We’ll send you details of how to apply for your free card shortly after you’ve opened your account. The card will start from the 2010/11 academic year and you’ll be able to renew this for free in the following two academic years.

Three year YHA membership

To apply for the Student Account you must:

  • have been a permanent UK resident for the last 3 years†,
  • be 17 years or older,
  • not have a Student Account elsewhere,
  • be studying on a full-time course of at least two years, or a one year access course leading onto a full-time degree.

† A permanent UK resident is defined as a person who has lived in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to commencing higher education studies.

Account opening is subject to our assessment of your circumstances. You must be 17 or over to apply.

The Student Current Account is only available to full-time students who are permanently resident in the UK. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and must be studying for a full-time course that lasts for a minimum of two years or be on a one-year access course leading on to a full-time degree.
