Joint accounts

A joint account is simply an account in the name of two or more people. You can either convert your existing account into a joint account by adding another person to it, or open a new account in two people’s names.

Joint account benefits

Joint accounts can be convenient for sharing outgoings such as shopping, household bills, mortgage or rent payments, or even budgeting for a holiday with a joint saving account.

With a joint current account you’ll both get your own VISA debit card, as well as a chequebook (if the current account comes with a cheque book), so you can pay for things and take out cash.

You can still keep your own current account and open an additional Lloyds TSB joint account, and move money between the two accounts easily.

Things to consider

Although there are benefits in opening a joint account, there are also extra responsibilities. Here are a few examples of things you need to consider  before opening a joint account:

Closing a joint account

If you later want to close a joint account or take someone off the account, a request can be made in writing, calling Telephone Banking or by visiting us in branch.

How to apply

You can either open a joint account or add someone else to your existing account at your nearest branch.

Alternatively you can open an account online in your name only and add someone else to your account at a later date. View all current accounts.

If you want to open a joint account you’ll both need to go into a branch so that you can provide identification in person. What identification to bring.

Other options

Credit cards
Additional Cardholders - adding your partner, a family member or friend to your account is a simple way to get more from your Lloyds TSB credit card. Adding an additional cardholder is not the same as a joint account – for example, the main cardholder will be responsible for all transactions the additional cardholder makes.
