To help you, here are some of the most common questions asked about travel insurance cover.  If you have any specific questions regarding your cover, or if you would like a bit more detail please try the Online Assistant

Q. If I am over 70 years of age can I get insurance?
A. Yes you can, cover is available for you up to and including the age of 74 at inception or renewal.

Q. What does ‘Excluding Baggage and money’ cover mean exactly?
A. It means that you can reduce the premium you pay by electing not to include cover under these sections if you feel you have adequate cover with your household insurance for personal possessions and money whilst abroad and in particular for the period of travel (some policies limit cover to 30 or 60 days in any one year).

Q. What is the maximum limit for valuable items such as jewellery or video cameras?
A. The maximum limit for all such items under the baggage section of the policy is £300.  There is also a limit for any one article, pair or set of articles of £300.

Q. The amount of baggage you provide as standard is not sufficient for my needs.  Can I increase this?
A. Yes, if you purchase the Baggage Cover Upgrade.  This will provide extended cover for an additional premium. Two levels of cover are available providing either £2000 or £2500 limit for baggage with increased single article/valuables limits of £500 or £750 depending on the upgrade selected.

Q. Can my children travel separately and still be covered under an annual family policy?
A. No. Under the annual multi trip policy only the adults are insured to travel on their own.

Q. My son is aged 19, can he be covered under the family cover?
A. No, the family cover only applies to your children, step children or foster children aged under 18 accompanying you on the trip. You would need to purchase a separate adult policy for your son.

Q. What is the excess waiver?
A.  This is an option under the policy where you can pay an additional premium to remove the £40 excess that applies to certain sections of the policy. Please note the excess waiver does not apply to any excess required to cover any existing medical conditions.

Q. I am going backpacking around USA, Canada and Australia, am I covered?
A. The maximum trip length permitted on a Single Trip policy is 183 days so this may be sufficient for your trip.  Alternatively, you could purchase an Annual multi trip policy under which the trip limit can be extended to cover you for 93 days (3 months), 186 days (6 months) or 279 days (9 months) for an additional premium.

Q. I intend to stay in France for about 3 months, am I covered?
A. Yes, you could take a single trip policy for the length of your stay.  Alternatively, if you have an Annual multi trip policy you could purchase the optional extension to increase the duration of the trip to 93 days.

Q. I have just booked my holiday which is more than 12 months in advance. Can I take out a policy for this?
A. Single trip policies cannot be issued more than 1 year in advance.
