Limit Alerts

If you have a personal current account with us our Limit Alert service can help you manage your money by sending you a text message either when you first get close to reaching or when you go over your agreed account limit. They will also let you know that we might not be able to make payments you have requested or that we may need to give you an Unplanned Overdraft to cover them.

View an example of the text alert you will receive

There are two types of alerts you could receive:

Near Limit alert
Over Limit alert
This lets you know when you’re approaching your account limit i.e:
  • Your balance is within £50 of your Planned Overdraft limit if you have one.
  • You have less than £50 left in your account if you don’t have a Planned Overdraft.
This lets you know if you don’t have enough money to make payments you have requested, like Direct Debits or standing orders. This means:
  • We may agree to give you an Unplanned Overdraft to cover the payments; or
  • If we don’t agree, you will not be able to make the payments.

Planned Overdraft is just what it says – planned. You might need a little extra money for a period of time. We’ll agree an amount with you and how long you’ll need it for.
An Unplanned Overdraft is when you don’t have enough money in your account for all the payments you have tried to make, so we agree to lend you a bit extra to cover them.  You might have slipped into the ‘red’ unexpectedly or need more than the Planned Overdraft limit we’ve already agreed with you.

How can I avoid fees?
We’ll send you a Limit Alert text message by 10am during the week and you’ll have until 3:30pm the same day to transfer money into your account to cover all payments. The money should be ‘cleared funds’ and there are some easy ways of paying this into your account. You can:

  • Pay in cash at any Lloyds TSB branch.
  • Transfer money from another Lloyds TSB personal account online via Internet Banking or by calling 0845 3 000 000**.
