Advice to help you manage your finances

Let us help you

How we can help
Financial problems are usually reflected in the following activity on your bank account: frequently exceeding your overdraft limit, unpaid direct debits, not being able to meet your outgoings and being unable to bring your overdraft back within the agreed limit. When these problems first begin to appear, please contact your branch and they will be happy to discuss your personal budget and see if we can re-structure your borrowing.

If your branch is unable to help you, we have a specialist department dedicated to helping in such circumstances that may accept reduced repayments. This department is available on 0800 389 8766*. Please ensure that you read the Financial Problems leaflet available below before contacting this department, and that if you have requests for further borrowing, including increases in any overdraft, that you have contacted your branch first.

Coping with debt

  • don’t ignore your debt – the longer you leave it the harder it becomes to resolve
  • complete a personal budget plan
  • contact the companies you are borrowing from and explain your circumstances and keep in contact with them
  • focus on your priority debts first – those that may have serious, practical or legal implications
  • consider your circumstances before agreeing to consolidate your debts
